Academic Promotion and Appointment Process in Higher Education since the Proclamation of the Turkish Republic

This study aims to examine the changes in procedures and principles of obtaining academic titles Turkish higher education from proclamation new Republic, appointment those who have these positions. By applying document analysis method, law universities, laws, regulations for staff promotion appointment, published Official Gazette since 1933, were examined. A total twenty-two laws related examined, which revealed that highest number made appointments associate professors (totally forty-eight) universities law. Nineteen regarding regulations. To conclude, despite its long-established structure, has many significant frequent title awarding procedures, primarily due sociopolitical reasons.
